The 2016 recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship, Bruce Roberts, is our longest tenured Lion (over 37 years) and has a long and generous history of public service.
Bruce was Chair of the Board of Directors and the Quest Campaign Chairman’s Circle of the Carolina Raptor Center and a major financial contributor to this organization dedicated to rescue, survival and environmental stewardship of birds of prey that inhabit our area. He has rendered compassionate and healing services of those in need of interment sites at the River Hills Community Church Cemetery. Consistent with the international mission of the Lions Club, he has been of service to the Kenya Orphanage Project through administrative help and a member of the first two mission trips to Kenya for KOP.
He has served as a CAAC teacher, a Lions mentor at Oakridge Middle and Elementary Schools and is presently on the Scholarship Exchange Student Committee. Bruce has Chaired the Lions Foundation Board of Trustees and their finance committee and served as Second VP of our Lions Club’s Board of Directors. He is never too busy to undertake any task, however small or large.
