No River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club member was surprised to hear that Don Long was one of two Unsung Hero Award winners at the holiday dinner. He has been a Lions Club member for 25 years, and long time activist in civic and church affairs whose list of accomplishments run from one end of the community to the other.
He helped write the Lake Wylie Ordinance for a Federal grant that paid for trees along highway 49 known as Lake Wylie Gateway/Bike path. Those beautification efforts included the Lake Wylie entrance signage at T-Bones. He’s also Chairperson for the Adopt A Highway 49 program. And he developed the Lake Wylie Civic Association.
He is currently a member of the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce Board and the River Hills Community Association. He has served several Board positions, including President, for the River Hills Community Association. And he keeps a close eye on the Carolina Water Service, unafraid to speak at Public Hearings. Don is a Trustee for Winthrop University.
He has been a River Hills Community Church Board of Trustee and on the Foresight Committee, Long Range Planning Committee and helped oversee the contractors when the Life Center was being built.
And he’s been the President and a Board member of the River Hills Country Club. If there’s a cause worth working for, count on Don Long to be there.
