This recognition is for long-term community service and does not require Lions membership. Gene served the charity community professionally throughout most of his working life and he continues this service in retirement. In his typically modest fashion, he thanked the Lions for this unexpected honor and acknowledged that he loved doing volunteer work.
Gene was a River Hills Lion for 12 years serving mostly by his fundraising and sales skills particularly for the Directory (and he still helps as a non-Lion). He also served many Golf Tournaments and the Benefit Dinners by recruiting sponsors and prizes, was on the River Hills Lions Community Foundation Board and he worked the Christmas Tree lot. He seemed always ready to quietly pitch in wherever needed.
He headed up the All Saints Catholic Church building fund campaign for the new Church Building. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Parish Council for several years.
Gene worked as a driver and shelf-stocker for the Clover Area Assistance Center for many years and also helped with administrative functions. He was also on the Board of the River Hills Country Club.
